Setting Up the Nexus Discord Bot for Your Creator Program

The Nexus Discord Bot makes it simple to manage invites and assign creator roles automatically, so your community setup runs smoothly without extra manual work. Before getting started, make sure you have the right server permissions and access to your Nexus Publisher Dashboard.

Follow the steps below to connect the bot, set up roles, and ensure creators in your program are recognized properly when they join your server.

1. Check Permissions

1. You must have the “Manage Server” permission in the server you want to add a bot to.

• If you’re not the server owner, ask the owner or an admin to grant you that permission.

2. Join the Nexus Bot from the Nexus Publisher Dashboard

1. Navigate to Nexus.gg, login, go to the Publisher Dashboard from the Profile icon in the top-right section of the homepage. 

2. Under Creator Programs, select the Creator Program for your game or click the drop-down menu to go to Configuration. 

3. Once under Configuration, scroll down to Discord Bot and click the Connect Discord Bot button.

3. A pop-out appears for Discord

1. A new page will open on Discord’s authorization screen (if it doesn’t, disable Adblock in your browser or look for “Allow pop-outs…”).

2. If prompted, log in to your Discord account.

3. Under “Add to Server”, open the dropdown menu. Select the server where you want the Nexus bot installed.

• If you don’t see your server in the list, it means you don’t have the required Manage Server permission there.

4. The invite page will list all the permissions the Nexus bot is requesting (e.g., Send Messages, Manage Roles, Kick Members, etc).

5. Click Authorize to proceed.

6. Enter 2FA for Discord, if required. Discord will often prompt you to confirm you’re human with a CAPTCHA as well. Once completed, the Nexus bot will be added to your server.

4. [IMPORTANT] Navigate to Discord to move the Nexus role above the Creator Role

1. Switch to Discord, and go to the Server where the bot has been added to. 

2. Click the name of the Server to navigate to Server Settings.

3. In Server Settings, click on Roles.

4. Drag the Nexus role, which may or may not be at the bottom, above the designated creator role.

• This role is the for the Discord Bot, not Nexus staff. Please make a separate role for Nexus staff (IE: “Nexus.gg”) if you haven't already. The Nexus staff role should be above the creator role as well. 

• If you have not created a creator role yet, please do so now.

5. Go back to the Nexus Publisher Dashboard

1. After the Nexus bot has given the proper permissions in Discord, go back to the Nexus Publisher Dashboard, and you should see new controls that appear under the Discord Bot of the Configuration settings.

2. Under Discord Bot, look for Settings, select the creator role from the dropdown you would like granted to members when they join the program.

• The bot may only assign a role lower in the hierarchy than its current role. If a desired role is not included in this list, the "Nexus" role will need to be moved higher in your Roles list, or a higher role will need to be applied to the bot. See Step 4.

Optional: announce to creators in your Creator Program that they will need to link Discord to their Nexus account under Settings in their Creator Dashboard (https://www.nexus.gg/dashboard/settings) to be granted access to creator channels in the Discord server. You can send out an announcement to all creators in your Creator Program under Campaigns. Do not ask creators to do this prior to completing this setup, as it will require creators to complete this process again.
